Sustainability & ESG Services

Setting your sustainability agenda and direction

Can you explain your organisation’s sustainability governance and approach, priority issues, and where you’re heading with targets for important (including regulatory) requirements like net zero, sustainable sourcing and materials, ethical supply chains and materials or nature impacts?

Do you sometimes struggle to meet customer or investor requests for sustainability / ESG information?

Do you know the impact of current and future regulations and standards and how they affect your business?

Are you at risk of regulatory scrutiny, poor ratings from ESG investors or losing competitive edge to others?

These challenges often reflect the need to enhance or develop sustainability / ESG strategy.

A strong strategy provides:

  • clarity on your sustainability context and what’s important for your company
  • what you will manage – and why
  • the right direction and a strong foundation for building plans that will deliver your sustainability / ESG performance over time
  • a coherent platform to communicate your approach to your customers and stakeholders powerfully and consistently.

1. Analyse

A deep dive into your operations, risks, capabilities, and opportunities

If you don’t know where you are, it’s difficult to know where you are going. Utilising our international sustainability expertise supported by a bespoke best practice assessment framework, we review your business activities and dependencies, and assess sustainability risks, capabilities, and opportunities. We can also benchmark you against your peers or competitors.

Sustainability-ESG-Strategy-Focus-Icon

2. Focus

Identify the material issues for your business

A focus on the issues that matter to you and your stakeholders is vital to your business’ value and future. That’s why ‘Materiality assessment’ is at the heart of global sustainability management and reporting best practice (from GRI, to Europe’s CSRD and forthcoming IFSRS standards). We’ll help you find the material issues for your business and stakeholders and provide DMA – Double Materiality Assessment to satisfy CSRD requirements.

Sustainability-ESG-Strategy-Vision

3. Vision

Where are you heading?

A compelling vision for sustainability should describe your desired outcomes and engage staff and stakeholders. Ambition is how far and how fast you’re planning to reach that vision. We have helped many organisations create vision and ambition to guide and drive their progress.

Sustainability-ESG-Strategy

4. Strategy

Deliver your vision and goals

A good strategy provides the basis for effective business decisions – bringing structure, focus and ambition together with deliverable goals for meaningful change. We have helped leading organisations to understand, prioritise and structure their strategies for sustainability so they can build resilience and meet strategic business objectives.

Sustainability-ESG-Plan

5. Plan

Your actions to implement and deliver

Achieving your goals requires clear and meaningful plans and pathways for action and change. The complexity and long-term nature of sustainability can be daunting. We help teams and business leaders develop structured action plans and route maps including long-term goals, to prepare for and guide progress.

Sustainability-ESG-Disclose

6. Disclose

Responsible communications and reporting progress

You should be able to tell your sustainability story in a way that can be heard by company leadership, investors, owners, customers and all relevant stakeholders. We help you develop a powerful narrative for your sustainability/ESG/responsibility disclosure, reporting and communications.
We also provide advice, support and training in identifying greenwashing – and how to avoid it.

Who we work with

We’ve had the pleasure of working with a range of clients from charities and start-up businesses to large global companies and NGOs.

Lactalis UK & Ireland/Lactalis Nestle Chilled Dairy – review, strategy development, 5-year detailed transformation planning

Outcomes:

  • Clear, defendable, and communicable strategic narrative, tackling and driving innovation in a key sector
  • Development of first UK CSR Report
  • Responsiveness and alignment with the sustainability ambitions of critical customers

Part of Groupe Lactalis, one of the world’s largest dairy companies, Lactalis UK and Ireland and Lactalis Nestle Chilled Dairy (LNCD – a joint venture between Lactalis and Nestle) are one of UK and Ireland’s largest cheese and chilled dairy companies, sourcing and buying sourcing milk from UK farms and manufacturing cheese and yoghurts for supply to major UK retailers and shops of all sizes.

As the environmental and social impacts of the dairy sector have become a key priority in terms of animal welfare, carbon footprint, land management and nature, Lactalis UK and LNCD wanted to build upon strong foundations to create a powerful and consistent ambition for driving sustainability performance.

We worked with Lactalis UK and LNCD to provide overall assessment and analysis of strategic and competitive drivers, materiality assessment and a strong vision and ambition to drive action.

In addition, we worked with teams across the business to identify and plan actions to deliver against that vision, creating detailed 5-year route maps for material areas for the business, from sustainable sourcing to logistics and supply, carbon and procurement.

They wanted to build upon this firm foundation to continuously improve their performance through a comprehensive sustainability strategy to match their values as well as understand, anticipate and exceed the requirements of their customers with regard to climate and carbon, sustainable materials and innovative design.

We worked with Hallmark UK and Ireland to review their strategic context and capability, assess their performance against competitors and analyse strategic and competitive drivers.
